Der dbx 231 ist ein zweikanaliger Constant Q, 1/3 Oktav-(Terzband) Equalizer mit 20 mm Fader. Der einstellbare Frequenzbereich liegt zwischen 20 Hz und 20 kHz (nach ISO Standard). Mit dem Input Gain Regler lässt sich der Eingangspegel um +/- 12 db anpassen. Der Low-Cut wirkt mit 12 db/Oktave bei 50 Hz (schaltbarer Bessel Filter). Der Einstellungsbereich der Fader lässt sich von +/- 6 db auf +/-12 db anpassen. Der Dynamikbereich liegt über 108 db. Der 231S hat HF gefilterte Ein- und Ausgänge, jeweils symmetrisch und asymmetrisch als XLR und Klinkenbuchsen. Der Ausgangspegel wird mit vier LED angezeigt. Eine Clip LED signalisiert Übersteuerungen.
