So bereitete sich die deutsche Fußballnationalmannschaft schon 2006 mit Functional Training auf die WM vor. Dabei werden mit freien Bewegungen und einfachen Hilfsmitteln wie Gymnastik-Matte oder Medizinball ganze Muskelgruppen trainiert und nicht nur einzelne Muskeln wie an den Kraftgeräten im Fitnessstudio. Jede Übung verbessert zugleich die Stabilität und Beweglichkeit des Rumpfes, unseres Kraftzentrums, von dem alle Bewegungen ausgehen, sowie die Koordination, Reaktionszeit und das Gleichgewicht des Sportlers.
