Das Gerät wird zwischen Verstärkerausgang und Lautsprecherbox geschaltet. Es ermöglicht so, die beliebte Endstufen-Verzerrung von Röhrenverstärkern auszunutzen, dabei lässt sich aber die damit verbundene hohe Lautstärke reduzieren. Die Lautstärke kann praxisgerecht für Bühnen- und Proberaumverhältnisse in 6 Stufen von 100% auf 18% reduziert werden. Eine weitere Stufe schaltet den Lautsprecher komplett stumm, die PDI06 arbeitet dann als LOAD-BOX und nimmt die komplette Leistung auf, die der Verstärker liefert. Diese Betriebsart ist sinnvoll, wenn man z.B. über einen vorhandenen Line-Ausgang des Verstärkers, der über eine Lautsprecher-Emulation verfügt, direkt ins Mischpult spielen will und Lautstärke im Aufnahmeraum unerwünscht ist. Das Gerät besitzt einen Eingang für das Lautsprechersignal vom Verstärker und ein Ausgang zum Anschluss einer Lautsprecherbox.
